Lifeguard Review (LGR)

An abbreviated Lifeguarding and Waterfront Skills course that briefly reviews course information and allows practice of skills and knowledge before testing. Current certification is required to participate in the review course. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED and a Waterfront Skills certificate, both of which are valid for 2 years. Students must possess a current Lifeguard certificate

You may take this only if you are still certified—otherwise you must retake the Lifeguarding course.

Current ARC Lifeguard and First Aid CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certificate

Swim 300 yards using breaststroke and front crawl with rhythmic breathing

Starting in the water, swim 20 yards, using the front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7 - 10 feet, bring a 10 pound diving brick to the surface, return 20 yards to the starting point and exit the water without using ladder or steps within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

CPR/AED Challenge (CPRch)


Class — 3 hours

For New York State, lifeguards must renew their CPR/AED certification annually, which allows you to renew your certification without taking a full course. No instruction is given—the participants are tested only. You must pass a written test with a score of 80% or higher and demonstrate the required skills with minimal prompting from the instructor

Challenge begins with group skills—participants will be evaluated on

conscious choking,

two-man CPR,

jaw-thrust with BVM, AED scenarios.

Then participants will start the three-part, 80 multiple-choice written test.

Part 1: 20 recognition and response questions;

Part 2: 30 CPR and 10 AED questions;

Part 3: 20 First Aid and Spinal questions.

Participants must score at least an 80% in each test (please study your AED facts—only allowed two errors are permitted in this section). Finally, participants will be tested on their CPR skills individually. Please take time to review our outline/study guide and prepare for the day.
